Completed morning program. Rashabandhan is observed today. My two sisters, elder Dayawati (affectionately called  Bitti') younger 'Shanno' spoke to me. They sent Rakhis by post which had reached us few days back. Venita helped in tying them in the morning. A small quantity of propitiated 'rochna' also sent along with Rakhis was applied by me on the forehead after tying the Rakhis.The ceremony symbolizes sister's wish for protection by the brother in time of need. It reminds a brother of duty towards his sister every year on this day: Shravan Poornima.

Completed morning program. Visited CSOI. In the Supreme court from 1 to 4 pm.
Venita returned Delhi from Mumbai. Air India flight was inordinately delayed. It was to land Delhi at 03.05 pm. It was cancelled without information. She was put in another flight like sheep and goats with no recognition for her reserved aisle seat no. 2C in the 3rd row (got done at Delhi at the time of purchase of ticket). She was told to occupy any vacant seat. She got one in the last row. This flight too was delayed and landed Delhi at about 8.15 pm. On top of  it, as if it were not enough, due to mixing of luggage, her bag came by different flight. She had to wait for it.
I will write to CMD Air India narrating difficulties faced by her due to inept Air India Staff. Furthermore, she faced enormous multi-traffic jams due to movement of people on account of Rakshtabandhan on way from airport to Vikaspuri reaching home around 11 pm. A long day for her from about 10 am when she started from Vandana's place at Mumbai to 11 pm when she reached home at Delhi. But she looked cheerful perhaps due to shopping at Mumbai airport

Siddhartha was born today.  According to the Indian calendar, he was born on 12th day of Bhadrapad, Krishnapaksh, on Thursday at 08.07 pm, Jorhat, Assam, Samvat 2027 corresponding to Gregorian calender's 27.08.1970. He is 45 today. Venita did puja at Mumbai and offered sweets to all on the occasion of his birthday and Amitabh-Ruchi's 19th marriage anniversary.
 We pray God for a long and healthy life to Siddhartha and bless Amitabh-Ruchi for a very happy married life.

Completed morning program. Dinesh's kidney biopsy is done today. The test result will come after 2 days.Visited IIPA. In the Supreme court from 1.30 pm to 4 pm.
According to Gregorian calender my birthday falls today. I am 76. As per the Indian lunar calendar it falls on the 12th day of Shravan Shuklapaksha, i.e., tomorrow(27th). 27th is the birthday of Siddhartha, second son and wedding anniversary of Amitabh/Ruchi too, eldest son.... 
I intended to invite all the relations and the two sons at Gurgaon for lunch at my place. Due to their preoccupation, none of them could come. I was disappointed. Then i thought of inviting a retired Group captain of the Indian Air Force and  Principal of dregree college of Fatehpur, now living in Dwarka,but later gave up the idea. Earlier i had not agreed with Venita to go to a Shiva temple at Kurukshetra for Abhishake on the day  I am not averse to going to a temple  I will never be. I have been going to temples since my early childhood. I wii go again whenever i get an opportunity. I am trying to see/feel Shiva within me these days.
 Neha insisted on coming to meet me on birthday. She organized a small eggless chocolate pastry at Cafe Coffee Day, Khan market..We used it as a cake to cut to the singing of happy birthday by single very low voice of Neha (her hemoglobin is below required level ) . I was thrilled by the ceremony.and touched by Neha's affectionate gesture. Had Neha too not come, i would have done it to myself all by myself. Thank you all my relations, sons and my dear wife (who chose to be at Mumbai on the day) for your loving good wishes over phone. A get-together is planned on Saturday after return of Venita. I think it is not necessary now.

It’s not necessary that you need to exercise only in the morning only, but even when you exercise at night never do it by sacrificing your sleep.
  1. Say No to Bright Light
A normal cycle for your day should be to receive sunlight during the day and darkness at night. Keep this in mind, and cut down your disclosure to light before going to bed. This will lower your melatonin levels, which is an indicator to brain about the time of sleeping. Therefore, when your brain tells you to sleep, you know you’re already sleepy.
  1. Avoid Medications
Taking sleeping pills in order to have sleep is a very bad habit, and damages your natural ability to sleep. For the moment, they might be relaxing as it at least helps you to forget the stress and offer you sleep. However, it has several side effects like direct impact on the central nervous system, slowing down of brain’s response to attention and memory, dizziness, and involuntary shaking of body, among others, as reported by WebMD. It might give you short-term pleasure, but once you quit it your body will become so dependent on it that you’ll lose your ability to feel sleepy, naturally.
  1. Cut Down Caffeine, Munch on Some Snacks
Consuming foods that is filled with rich carbohydrate is a definite no-no when it comes to eating them right before bedtime. Like them, caffeine should also not be consumed long hours before bedtime because it is such a stimulant that remains inside in your system for no less than 8 hours and either restricts you from having sound sleep or any form of sleep, entirely.
According to Prevention.com, studies have indicated that munching on a little snack indeed helps you to fall asleep. Biscuits or cheese-crackers or anything that contains a mixture of carbohydrate and either calcium or a protein that has amino acid tryptophan, shoots up the production of serotonin that is a naturally forming brain chemical, helping you to feel calm and relaxed, and eventually fall asleep
  1. Keep Your Bed Only for Sleeping and Sex
If you’re a person who works on his laptop, reads books, watch television and sometimes even chews on the snacks, all sitting on bed then those are your reasons to experience lack of sleep. By spending majority of the time on bed, you’re giving your brain the notion that it’s sleeping time whenever you’re on bed. In this way, it’s not only disrupting your sleep routine, but also affecting your non-sleep activities and eventually, affecting your sleep. Therefore, keep your bed solely for sleeping and sexual purposes to avoid missing out on a sound sleep.
  1. Keep Your Room Cool
Before bedtime, try and arrange things in the bedroom in a way that drops the temperature of the room. You can lower the air conditioning temperature, turn up your cooler, draw the curtains, quit turning off the lights, and change the bed sheets into fresh and cold ones, to keep your room cool. Taking a hot shower is also a good idea right before bedtime and entering into your cool room as this conveys a message to your brain to release melatonin – the sleep stimulator.
  1. Quit Smoking Before Bedtime
Smoking causes you to have difficulty in breathing by aggravating sleep apnea and worst case scenario, breathing disorders if you already suffer from that. These already damage your ability to sleep and you end up staying awake the night, lighting up more and more of those deadly puffs.
  1. Go Ancient, Drink Milk
All those grandmotherly and motherly suggestions of drinking milk before bedtime actually work. Milk contains calcium that shoots up the production of melatonin and helps you to fall asleep. Completed morning program. Visited CGHS and SBI. In the Supreme court from 2 to 3 pm. Attended a function at ICC in memory of late Kala, organized by Kaarthikeyan, her husband and my batchmate. Bramhkumari Shivani gave a talk on "Our thoughts make our destiny" a discourse on meditation. It was captivating, convincing and  made in simple language.

Completed morning program. Venita returned Delhi in the afternoon after a stay of about 45 days with Pilku in London.
Attended B & A session at CSOI in which Nirmala Pillai read out part of her story ,published in 'Singing earth', a collection of 22 stories. Lipi, another author read out part of her novel 'Aja's house', based on life of her maternal grandfather. Ragini Bansal, a teacher, read out from RK Narayan's Swami and friends and other stories and gave critical analysis of his works.
B (Books) & A (Authors) session is held once a month at CSOI. in which authors speak about their works, followed by questions and answers. These sessions stimulate imagination which is sine-qua-non for a purposeful life. I try to attend these sessions as far as possible.
