Completed morning program. Carpenter repaired the  doors/windows installed by him 3/4 months back. He says there are many hassles in carpentry and would shift to another business. Which business does not have hassles, i asked ? He did not have an answer. Painting of some furniture was done.
Advocate Anupam Tiwari, Advocate Ajay and Advocate Digvijay Singh came. Krishnanand, a neighbor and old friend, also visited. The DM., posted at Fatehpur these days, is his close relation.

Completed morning program. In the series of Pujas during Deepawali, Chitragupt is worshiped today. He is the record keeper of our deeds. The children of Kayastha community worship their pen,book,computer and pray to Him to give knowledge and strength to do good deeds. As desired by Venita, I worshiped my computer,pen and one magazine as i did not have a book at hand. It is all e-knowledge these days and computer epitomizes that. There are 6 main days of celebration during Deepawali,namely,Dhanterus,Chhoti Diwali,Badi Diwali, Govardhan,Chitragupta and Bhayya Dwij Pujas.  After Chitragupta Puja by me, Venita did Bhayya Dwij Puja praying for the well being of her brothers. She went to Allahabad to meet her youngest brother and his family for Bhaiya Dvij  and to spend a couple of days with them. In the Bhayya Dwij ceremony she did Tilak of her brother wishing him long life.

Completed morning program. Deepawali celebrated today. All over the locality,rows of twinkling colourful lights were seen. In our house too there were lights all over. A number of of crackers burst. Ajay,Shivji,his brothers,their families and late Naresh Bhaisaheb's family came. We had a lavish Lakshmi puja.

Called on local SP. He is a young IPS officer of 1977 batch. His grandfather, a State Police Service officer, was also SP here quite sometime back. He belongs to Allahabad and was educated in Allahabad. He was subsequently selected in IAS also,but did not join it because he was allotted to Chhatisgarh cadre. He wanted to live and work in UP. He is disillusioned now. He said that  he would not permit any of his children to join police service. Met Dr. Chetan. Advocate Ajay and Shivji came.

Could not undertake morning program.Settled down at Fatehpur .We are to live here for more than 10 days. Living is comfortable with some additional space and an attached dressing room and toilet to what is known as Gita/Gillo bedroom in the ancestral house.The compound is cleaner and has a number of flower beds.
Bits of polishing,painting.plumbing,compound cleaning and similar things have to be done. We are trying to get it done. Sheomohan cooks well. Grains,vegetables here have a different and good taste. Swachha abhiyan is yet take a start.The town has become more congested. The pavement shops,  even main shops have swallowed quite a  bit of roads. They have become narrower. Environment,however,is pollution free.Less of motorized traffic, more of men-driven-rickshaws/carts. Observed Ekadasi fast.
Advocates Shivji,Digvijay and Ajay called on.
Counting was done for Mharashtra and Haryana assembly  recent polls.

Boarded Swarn Shatabdi at 6 am. Arrived Kanpur at about 12 noon. Visited elder sister. She is fine with her unmarried daughter who runs a primary school. It has about 200 children. Classes are up to 5th standard. Medium of education is mixture of English and Hindi. There are 11 teachers along with 5 attendant staff. Building is double story ed, They have bought the only floor above their residential building about 3 years back. Both are being utilized  for the school. They live in a part of the residential building.

After a drive of about 2 hours reached Fatehpur at about 6 pm. Earlier we spent about 4 hours with the elder sister. I took some rest. But Venita had her parleys with them throughout.

At Hyderabad. Golden Jubilee Seminar of 1964 batch was inaugurated by Mrs Aruna Bahuguna, Directer NPA. The batch consisted of 70 officers. Of them 27 died. 4 left after selection to IAS. Only 25 attended. We shared memories of our stay in the Police College at Mount Abu.. It was shifted to Hyderabad in 1974. The NPA campus is much bigger,green and has modren training facilities.

Interacted with IPS officrs under training. I also met the officers, allotted to NE Caders.
 After discussions in our Syndicate, we prepared the recommendations to the Seminar on "Resilience in adverse situation". I refereed to a recent article in New York Times on the subject. It defined Resilience. It says that it is more of inner strength than anything else. In the afternoon, 3 Syndicates including ours presented their recommendations to the seminar. Discussions followed.
On request,Venita also addressed the seminar and thanked the Directer and her staff  for excellent arrangements to take care of all of us. We felt at home in NPA. In Mussoorie Reunion of the batch in May along with other services,we felt as if we were guests.

Got up quite early to get ready and report at Delhi airport at about 8.30 am. Arrived Hyderabad at about 12 noon. A team from the National Police Academy (NPA) received us at the airport. On way we looked up Pramod and Anita at Miapur, a detour of about an hour, and had lunch with them They are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary during Christmas days when we will be in Sri Lanka. We had planned it long time back and were not aware of their anniversary celebration. All their children and Anita's brothers with their families are expected to attend. Subhash and Sunita will look them up on 12th Dec, actual anniversary date. 

We are lodged in a beautiful cottage at NPA, donated by the Border Security Force. Different forces and some State Governments have constructed a cottage each for use by visitors to the Academy.
Attended a cultural show organized as part of the Golden jubilee Reunion Seminar of 1964 batch.
Retired to sleep at about 11.30 pm after dinner on the lawns near the Auditorium where cultural show took place.

Completed morning program. Venita is 66 today. She was born on Navmi of Aswin, Suklapaksha , Samvat 2005 , at about 2.30 to 3 am according to Hindi Panchang on Monday corresponding to 11th October, 1948. A number of  family members and friends wished her happy birthday. We had lunched out along with Babloo, Neha and Akshat earlier on Vijayadasmi (the day she was born) ,3rd Oct, to celebrate it.
Venita observed fast of Karvachauth today. After sighting the moon at about 8.30 pm, she did its Puja. And after my Puja, took a sip of water and slice of burfi, from my hands. She garlanded, gave sweets and touched my feet. Thereafter we took dinner together.
Visited SBI. In the chamber from about 1.30 to 4 pm.

She was born on Ashtami of Aswin's Adhik Mas (Dwatiya), Krishnapaksh, Wednesday, Vkram Samvat 2058/Shak Samvat 1923 of the Hindi Panchang corresponding to 10th October, 2001 of Gregorian calender at 12.10 pm in a Vasant Vihar hospital, New Delhi..We bless her for happy and bright life

She enters crucial years of her life from 14 to 19. The parents have to guide her. They have to adopt innovative ways so that she listens them and follows their advice..

Attended Khyati's birthday celebrations at Gurgaon along with Venita. A number of her friends and relations attended. She lit 14 candles on top of a wall of the basement climbing it with the help of steel stairs and cutting the cake thereafter to the singing of happy birthday to her each time, once at the end of kindling of candles and thereafter at the time of cutting of the cake.

Completed morning program. Babloo came with Neha and Akshat. According to Indian calender, Venita was born on Vijayadashmi,that is, yesterday. According to Gregorian calender,she was born on 11th Oct.1948. Karvachauth falls on 11th Oct. As she keeps fast on the day praying for long life of her husband,we decided to celebrate her birthday today. Amolikaa,our 10 year old British granddaughter, rang up from London. I asked her whether she would observe Karvachauth after marriage. She said "Yes". I was pleased to hear that. She is aligned to her roots and traditions.
Venita scored double six on Vijayadashmi day. With 8 and 75.

All of us went out for a sumptuous lunch at a nearby hotel and spent over two hours there together. Babloo,Neha and Akshat went back Gurgaon in the evening.

Completed morning program. Venita spent a good deal of time early morning celebrating Vijayadashmi in the temple. She remembered her father early morning. She said that he used to take all his children out to show Neelkanth, a bird with blue throat, on the day.It is akin to Shiva Darshan. It is believed that Shiva had taken poison that had come out after churning of the Ocean in the beginning of the universe and kept it in his throat. His throat had become blue due to it. He is known as Nilkantha. He did it to protect all against its devastating effect.
