23rd to 24th August

On 23rd I could not go for walking as it was raining quite heavily. The society temple had been decorated quite well on the last Monday of the month of Shravana. Visited Safdarjang hospital and showed the hand and the knee to Dr.Kothari. He said the hand should be alright on its own within 2-3 months. He had injected in my left elbow about a couple of months back. The bone injection was extremely painful. He had then told me that my elbow would be alright soon. There was nothing/no pain for 2 months. I experience now extreme pain particularly in the night. Dr.Kothari says it will all be over after 2-3 months. I think I will have to consult someone else now for my problem. The knee however is improving and I can now do Bagrasan without any difficulty. Today I got up at about 3.10 am & could not sleep after that. Retired to sleep at about 9.40 pm. On 24th visited Dr.Agarwal's dental clinic for final check-up of capping of 4 right lower teeth. He said that capping had been done well. I should come to the clinic whenever required or after 6 months for a check-up. Met Pravesh and collected IT file from Sh.Das. Pravesh has not yet recovered from the shock of IT raid quite sometime back. I advised him to forget and forgive. Visited MMTC shop and CGO complex. The rate of 1gm of 22 carat gold jewelery is Rs. 2200/- including vat. There is no jewelry of less than 12 gms. Venita wanted to buy a gold chain for the second daughter of Silku within Rs.7000-8000. Nothing is available in this shop within that amount. Informed her. She said she would buy it from Gold Sukh, Gurgaon, where the chains of 2-3 gms were available. Visited Nath chemists for change of Stevia-O-Cal. They changed and said that even loose pouches which had solidified stevia powder could be changed by them. Its a good gesture on the part of the company. Told them to get me 2 boxes of stevia powder. Jaymith informed that the office was closed due to Rakhi and will open after 3-4 pm. Bought some cheese from Sai sales, Chanaykapuri. Retired to sleep at 10pm.

20th to 22nd August

On 20th visited Dr. Agarwal's clinic for final touches to the capping of the 4 teeth. Dr.Agarwal's wife did the capping in a highly professional manner. I was impressed and congratulated her for an excellent job done.Dr. Agarwal told me that she had taken care of his teeth too. But I don't understand as to how his teeth were so blackish. Dr.Agarwal has a negroid looks. I will ask his wife when I go to the clinic on 24th about it (about teeth and not about his negroid looks). Silku informed that he had been blessed with a daughter at 11 am on 19th August. He informed me after about 24 hours. I told him that it was a great news and that I bless her. A number of telephone calls and messages were received by us congratulating for the birth of 5th grand child to us. On 21st visited custom shop and bought an umbrella, probably made in China or Korea. But the the Chinese letters had been defaced. I don't know the reason. Perhaps the dealer or the manufacturers do not want it to be known that it was manufactured in China or Korea for whatever reasons. The Sony LCD bought by my wife as birthday gift to me is in fact from the interest of the gift of money which she got from her mother and not from our joint account. I dint get any dowry nor we demanded it during our marriage, but I feel as if I am getting it now unsolicited. Last year she gave me a Nokia cellphone costing about Rs.20,000/-. This year it is again a costly gift . If she continues to give me such gifts during the remaining years of my life I think I would have got quite a bit of dowry after 43 years of married life. So let it be. I am not asking for it. The LCD however did not reach today due to heavy rains in Gurgaon. The dealer informed that it would reach me next day. I got a reading light fixed over my bed. I myself went to the Tilak Nagar market to search for one. But could not get better than what the society electrician had brought. In a discourse on the tv Brahma Kumari Shivani answered the following eternal questions as follows:
1. Who are we? Ans: We are consciousness/energy.
2. What is the purpose of life? Ans: As our true nature is peace and happiness, the purpose of our life is to create happiness and peace.
3. What is a goal? Ans: It is relative to time and space.
4. What are the values of life? Ans: Purity, Happiness and Peace.
We can ponder over the above and come to our own conclusions. Good food for thought. On 23rd the LCD arrived and was installed by me in the room where Venita works and sleeps. She dint object to it. Had to pay additional Rs. 7800/- as we decided to buy a bigger LCD. Venita had bought 22" inches LCD which I thought was small for the room and therefore I suggested her to buy a 26" LCD promising to pay the additional balance amount required for it. She agreed. Dr.B.Prasad and his family came for lunch. Mrs.Prasad brought beautiful Rajanighanda flowers. Could not go for the dinner of Gaurave as felt quite tired after a long pre and post lunch sitting together with Dr. Prasad and his family.

6th to 19th August

On 6th visited Safdarjang hospital and showed the cardiology test reports to Dr. Sandeep Bansal. He said that the additional medicine prescribed by Dr.Seth was in fact for chest pain and may not be taken. Today is Ekadashi and I have kept fast. Venita left for Allahabad by Duronto Express tonight and will leave for Delhi back by the same train in the night tomorrow to reach on Sunday morning. Felt a bit breathless. Will consult Dr.Sandeep Bansal if it persists. Otherwise I am comfortable. The writeup in the Indian Express on 7th points out that dried Apricots are rich in magnesium, are stress buster and natural muscle relaxant. Almonds, pistachios and walnuts lower blood pressure and boost immune system. The oranges also reduce stress and return blood pressure to normal level. Spinach remove deficiency in magnesium. The deficiency in magnesium causes migraine headaches, a feeling of fatigue. One cup of Spinach is the daily need of the body. These are some of the points I noted from the newspaper. Watched the cricket match between Sri Lanka & India. On 8th Venita returned from Allahabad. The Duronto Express was late by four and half hours. The culture connect marketing is needed to sell your wares, so says Sh. Sombit Sengupta in a write up in the Indian Express. On 9th visited Dr.Agarwal's clinic for the root canaling of the teeth number 6&7. Dr.Agarwal said that perhaps root canaling of tooth no. 7 may not be necessary. He will decide it later. On 11th visited Safdarjang hospital and CGHS for collection of permissions for tests and also medicines. Met Dr.R Tandon in the Sitaram Bharatiya Institute of Science and Research. He suggested a capsule in lieu of four tablets I take now ever since my angioplasty in 2004. He further said that I should get another HBAC test done after sometime to watch the sugar level. The fasting and PP sugar are normal. Fasting is 93 and PP is 133, which are in the normal level. I have been consulting Dr.Tandon as the final word in my treatment. He gives a sober and professional advice. On 12th visited Safdarjang hospital to collect endorsement of eye test of Venita. Met Agnihotri. Jain has joined as new RC of Meghalaya house. Met him too. Bought 5 cartons of Stevia O Cal for Venita. I had to search a number of chemist stores and ultimately got it in the Nath chemist shop in CP. On 13th joined the batch mates over 2nd Friday lunch in the COIS. There were in all 18 batch mates including VR Kohli and Naresh Saxena. On 15th hoisted the National flag in the premises of the Arunodaya housing society where I live. I have been doing it from 1998 when the National flag was hoisted on the Independence day first time. I occupied my flat in the society without any wood work as I had no money for it. Even for electrical work I had to take loan from an acquaintance. Later for my work in UNDCP I was paid Rs.60,000 and I could return the loan. Some of my friends whom i contacted for loan did not give. I had then retired. It is only after I earned some money in the legal profession that I could get the wood work done. I have remained president of the society for over 8 years during which 304 flats came up. In fact I had to strengthen the foundations of some of the blocks of flats as these were not adequately provided for. It was hard work for me along with my other colleagues of the management committee. During a brief speech,I appealed to members to keep in view the comfort of others. On 16th sent a scanned copy of the news item published in the Times of India regarding fraudulent withdrawal from the accounts in UK. On 17th visited Dr.Agarwal's dental clinic for capping of the four lower teeth no. 4,5,6 & 7. On 18th again visited Dr.Agarwal's dental clinic for check up. Visited Kairali and bought some coconut fried banana chips etc. On 19th there was a get together at Gurgaon for Pramod and his family who are leaving for Morocco on 20th as their elder son is posted there. Venita attended it. I could not go.

4th & 5th August

On 4th visited State Bank of India, Parliament Street. Sanjaya rang up for sending a status report of the Frigoglass case to their auditors. Sent the same. Felt feverish and tired, took a dysprin which relieved me. On 5th visited Dr. Mishra to show him the requisite reports of Venita for treatment of her diabetes. He charged me Rs.1500/- as his consultation fee. He is the most expensive consultant I have come across so far. But his approach to Venita's problem is comprehensive and unlike of the other consultants. I hope his treatment will work and the level of blood sugar of Venita reduce. Dr. Mishra is the head of Fortis group of hospitals in NCR and also has his own clinic. We saw him in his clinic. The following write-ups in the Indian Express dated August 4 at the page nos. 10 & 11 are revealing, caught my attention and are given below:
1) Jaithirth Rao in page 10.
"I think it is a mistake to categorize India as a soft State. It is certainly not a hard one. It is flexible one with deep survival instinct. Our science school teacher would tell us that grass blows with the breeze but never gets uprooted however strong the wind."
2) David Brooks at page 11.
"There are two ways of thinking about life - one centers on the individual and the other on circumstances."
3)Ajit Deval at page 11.
"The majority of encounters are mostly to murderous attacks on security personnel. On an average 1,200 policemen get killed every year."
The Indian Express carries thought provoking write-ups in its center page almost everyday and may be read by us as far as possible.
Retired to sleep at 10.45 pm.

3rd August

Submitted signed copies of ITR's to Sh.Das,CA to Bangalore, as per rules. Spent one hour with Pravesh. He has been going through a period of stress. He felt grossly relieved after talking to me. I will have to visit him quite often. He opens up with me or another friend. Sent a traffic accident report to the Commissioner Police. It occurred near Tuglak road Police Station on 2nd August.
Retired to sleep at 11pm.

30th July to 2nd August

On 30th, visited CGHS dispensary on Pandara road. Met Dr. Tomar. He said the fungus on the right side joint of the lips was due to lack of Vitamin B-complex. A couple of days earlier he had told that it was due to allergy. At that time when I told him that a senior physician, Dr. Godpayle, had informed me earlier that the fungus was invariably due to deficiency of vitamin B-complex,Dr.Tomar had insisted that it was due to allergy and not due to deficiency of vitamin B-complex.The doctors have great egos. They would not go with the opinion of others. I think that the conflicts in society these days are due to egos and not so much on any other factor. Underwent root canalling of my teeth number 6 & 7. I will have to come again tomorrow. It continued for over one & half hour.
On 31st again went to Dr.Agarwal's dental clinic and had RCT, which is a technical & abbreviated expression of root canalling of teeth. The root canalling of the other tooth will start from Monday the 9th August. Today the dentist, did not have to give anesthesia. I felt no pain today. The cost of root canalling of one tooth is Rs.2600/- & its topping cost Rs. 3000/- Rs.4000/- per tooth. Although I would not have to pay the cost of root canalling but I will have to pay the cost of topping of the teeth. The CGHS will pay the cost of root canalling. The CGHS rate is Rs.1200/- for root canalling per tooth where as others have to pay Rs.2600/- per tooth. It has been raining heavily today all over Delhi. The roads are clogged with water and the movement of traffic is very slow.
On 1st after haircut ordered preparation of the photographs of Amolikaa & Abhishree, sent by Ruchi by email, for membership of Army head quarters Equitation school. Venita said it would be waste of Rs. 2000/- required for becoming members of the school by the grand daughters as they would hardly avail of it. They are girls and we should coach them in music & art rather than in horse riding. She has a point. I will discuss with Pilku and decide thereafter.Sent messages to friends on the friendship day which is celebrated all over the world on the 1st Sunday of each August.
On 2nd I repeated the following message to Subhash, Pravesh, Agnihotri & Bezbaruah, received from Sanjaya :
" A SUPERB FRIENDSHIP LINE
'I want you to be with me only two times in my life'
'1st now & 2nd forever'

HAPPY FRIENDSHIP DAY..."
I received replies from KTS and Vikas. Pravesh did not reply as he was going through some difficult time. Agnihotri does not know how to send sms. He apologized for the non reply. I think Subhash & Bezbarua must be passing through some problems. I will talk to them. We have stopped talking to each other and believe only in sending emails. We are missing the direct touch with each other. That way Venita cannot send email or sms and she relies in talking to her circuit of friends & relations. Visited Dr. Seth, the principal Cardiologist ,Escorts hospital. He impressed me. He saw my blood, echo and stress thallium reports and prescribed one more medicine in addition to 4, I am already taking. He asked me to see him after 6 months with the same reports. He has kept the CD of my Angiography at Max hospital in 2008 and after seeing it he will return. I had to wait for about 4 hours that is from 3pm to about 8 pm, when the appointment with him was at 3.10 pm. I pointed out this to him and requested for streamlining the procedure so that the persons don't have to wait for more than an hour or so. He did not take my advise kindly. But at the time of leaving him I asked him to ignore my 4 hour comment to keep him in good humor. He was quite happy. As I said above the doctors, and all of us have big egos and would not like anything against them. So is the life and we have to put up with it.
