Drove down to Vikaspuri. Venita is already there to participate in Durga Puja rituals/celebrations. She will be there till Dussehra. I will go back to VV on Monday..

Observed Ekadasi fast. The fast is dedicated to the ancestors. The day falls during Pitrapaksha.
Drove to VV. Attended  a Seminar on 'Marginalization & Identity – Roma in Europe, Minorities in India' at the Institute of Social Sciences Vasantkunj. The Romas have claimed linkage with  India's Banjaras.  It was an absorbing discussion, attended by Social scientists of JNU, DU and others.My interest was aroused due to a news item sometime back on the subject. Among the immigrants to UK from other parts of Europe, Romas were mentioned in course of discussion with an Englishman during my last visit to London. He was quite critical of their demeanor.

As Driver Thapa had to shift to another accommodation,  stayed back at Vikaspuri for the day. The bill for use of internet in my landline is about Rs 20000/- for the month of August,2016. It appears someone hacked password of Wifi and used it for downloading and uploading . Complained to CMD MTNL for inquiry and action.

Attended a discourse by Gurumaa at Sirifort auditorium on 'Relevance of Srimad Bhagavad Gita in 21st century' from 11 am to 1 pm.. 'There are many more Kauravas these days than those in Krishna's times. Life is much more difficult these days. Gita shows you path to go on' said Gurumaa. Control of difficult mind is essential for success.

Today is Akshat's birthday. He is 10. According to Indian calendar, he was born on Friday, Navmi, at 9.57 am of Aswin's Krishnapaksh, Vikram Samvat 2063 in Moolchand hospital, New Delhi, India. It was also Shradha paksh during the period. It corresponded to Gregorian calender's 15th September 2006. It is a Hindu belief that ancestors take births during the Shradha paksh in families. We prayed for his long healthy life. Venita rang up at 7.30 am to wish and bless him but he had already left for the School at 7.
Attended his birthday bash at Gurgram along with Venita. Akshat cut cake to the the singing of Happy birthday to him by all of us including about 10 children, especially selected by him for the occasion. Silku also came.

Attended a Round table discussion on Kashmir, organized by Arsipso. To bring back normalcy in Kashmir, i endorsed the suggestions, given by Raj Chengappa in an article in India Today, dated 12th Sept, 2016 :

Completed morning program. Visited Dr Ashok Seth's office in Escorts hospital. He wanted to re-see my three angiography CDs, two of 2004 and one of 2008.  Dr Dhananjay, a doctor of Dr Seth's team, took them from me. Dr. Seth had seen me about a fortnight back.

Attended cremation of late AK Verma at electric crematorium. He retired as Director in cabinet secretariat. He was a past President of Arsipso.

1st Sep.
Left Shillong at about 11 am. At Guwahati talked to former DGP Assam, Shri MR Choudhuri, now over 88. Could not meet him due to Plane timings. Was keen to talk to him. I had small tenure stints with him as ASP, SP and DIG.Will try to meet him during next visit.
Arrived Delhi at about 6.30 pm.

Attended the meeting of the State Security Commission. The Chief Minister presided. Others in cluded the State Home Minister,Chief Secretary, Home Commissioner, State DGP Jain,Thankiew, an Advocate and some other officials.Attended dinner hosted by Bijon day, a former DGP,Meghalaya.
30th August
Left for Shillong to attend the meeting of the State Security Commission. While in the aircraft wished to see the Himalaya's snow-capped peaks. Could not due to heavy clouds. At Nongpoh had a chance meeting with the DC, a Maharashtrian gentleman, an IAS officer, in the Circuit house. Could not join  his invitation for lunch as i had to hurry up to Shillong. Had dinner with Peter. He is now a Member of the State Human Rights Commission. The post has the status of a High Court judge. He could be in the post till the age of 70. The Chairman of the Commission is a retired Chief Justice of a High Court. Bijon Dey, a retired DGP of Meghalaya also came for the dinner.
