Came to know of the sudden death of elder sister at Indore during midnight. She was staying with her son who is posted there as GM CCI. In the night itself, her son and family took her dead body to her house in Kanpur city (where she otherwise stayed with her eldest unmarried daughter) for cremation. We cancelled visit to Fatehpur by train.  Instead left Delhi for Kanpur by road. As I could not reach Kanpur before sunset, cremation was postponed to next day in the morning. Stayed at her place in the night.
She had neither diabetes nor blood pressure. No major disease. She was 85. There was general weakness due to old age.
26th
Reached Fatehpur in the afternoon after attending cremation in the morning . About 15 people attended it on the bank of Ganga at Bhairon ghat, Kanpur
Advocate Shivaji and Ajay came. Condoled sister's  death.
27th
Advocate Ajay came along with Advocate Kanchan in the forenoon. Advocate Digvijay Singh followed in the afternoon. Some local families came to condole sister's  death

Took Venita for further check-up in Fortis today.

Visited Nehru museum to complete transcript of my statements, recorded earlier over a few months last year, pertaining to personal life and tenure in Assam, and met Shri Jeevan Chandra Gwaskikoti, Research officer, Oral History Division, Nehru Museum and Library, Teen Murti House New Delhi 110011 (Mobile :9953226822,011-23016140   (office).

Holi is celebrated today.  It is festival of colours. The legends around it are :" Holi has various legends associated with it. The foremost is the legend of demon King Hiranyakashyap who demanded everybody in his kingdom to worship him but his pious son, Prahlad became a devotee of Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashyap wanted his son to be killed. He asked his sister Holika to enter a blazing fire with Prahlad in her lap as Holika had a boon which made her immune to fire. Story goes that Prahlad was saved by lord himself for his extreme devotion and evil minded Holika was burnt to ashes, for her boon worked only when she entered the fire alone.

Since that time, people light a bonfire, called Holika on the eve of Holi festival and celebrate the victory of good over evil and also the triumph of devotion to god." From Google

Took Venita to Dr Ritesh Gupta, a  diabetic physician for check up.

Attended marriage of late Dr Madhu's daughter,Parul. She got married to Jegamohan Vicneswarajah,a Sri Lankan settled in London. Baratis were quite a few. Janatis were not many. There was lot of boisterous leg-swinging mainly by Sri Lankans, a happy people to the tune of Bollywood and Sinhalese tunes (most based on Bollywood songs or vice-versa). Sri Lanka achieved a Happy Planet Index Score of 33.8 and ranks 28th, India 133 and UK 34 among  156 countries . Finland is on top. All ceremonies started from 14th. While dancing along with many, bride and bridegroom slipped rings into each other's fingers, an innovative way of doing ring ceremony. Jayamala and marriage  took place today. Unlike in India, they bent down to take mala on each other's neck. No 'nakhra'.Venue was Country-inn and Suites of hotel Radisson on Sohna road in outer Gurgaon, about an hour drive from Delhi. Parul (she looked like Anuradha, Madan's wife at her wedding), the bride, a NHS doctor, organised all arrangements, stay etc.of over a fortnight there. Prem Srivastava, her father had come to Pilku's place in London along with his younger daughter to meet us. We were then in London.

The day was spent at Vikaspuri home; services relating to plumbing, electrification and ACs were requisitioned. They completed their work. Missed morning walk and exercises.
10th(Sunday)
Schedule of 2019 General elections was announced. These will start on April 11th and end on 19th May in 7 phases. Results will be announced on 23rd May.
11th
Arrived Vikaspuri in the afternoon.Venita too returned with me. Worked from home.
12th

Attended Poonam's daughter's marriage. Poonam is Welfare officer in Safdarjung hospital. Her husband is a bank officer. She helps us with medical appointments in the Safdarjung hospital. She is a nice person and serves all with dedication.

4 and 5th March

Mahashivaratri is celebrated in the country. People remain awake throughout night, keep fast and meditate on Shiva-tatva. They visit temples join in puja-archna and kirtan. Venita did Shiva Mahabhisheka early morning in the Society temple at Vikaspuri. We have visited all 12 Jyotirlingams, located all over India except  Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga, located in Jharkhand. and worshipped there. Today is holiday.
Visited Escorts hospital for a routine check-up.
5th
Venita stayed back at Vikaspuri to join in Tuesday evening's Bhajan-Kirtan at the Society temple. She will also oversee wet-maintenance of 4 ACs by O'Genral in our flat on Wednesday. AMC will be renewed thereafter for 2019-20. It is due by mid-March.

Venita went to Vikaspuri to celebrate Shivaratri on 4th March.
Attended function for inauguration of renovated Assam House on Gopinath Bardoloi Marg, Chanakyapuri by Assam Chief Minister Sarbanand Sonowal followed by dinner. As it was my fast day due to Ekadasi, I did not join in dinner. CM spoke well  on all round development in Assam. I have worked with 6 CMs, namely, late BP Chaliha, Mahendra Mohan Chaudhury,Sarat Chandra Sinha, Golab Barborah, Jogendra Nath Hazarika and Hiteshwar Saikia,all former Chief Ministers of Assam, in course of my tenure in Assam for over 25 years. The present CM Sonowal is a youthful  and dynamic face.
