31st October

Completed morning program partially.
Bought Sony Core I3 (3rd Generation) laptop with Windows 8 from Nehru Place. Learnt its operation. I saw laptops of HP, Dell, Samsung, Lenevo.  I liked Sony laptop. I have given it to Jaymith to configure Microsoft Office etc.in it. Its operation is slightly different from Windows 7 and XP. I will take it home tomorrow after he has configured it . I consulted Subhash, Pilku, Silku, Babloo, Neha , Rajat before deciding to buy it. While Subhash and Neha endorsed buying of Sony laptop, others suggested to buy either Lenevo or HP or Acer or Samsung and so on so forth. Neha and Chotu have Sony laptops. I could not talk to Chotu as her cell was switched off.

As my laptop is dysfunctional. I have to buy a new one. A search for the best is on. I desired to buy a laptop with Windows 8. I am advised to buy a laptop with Window 7. What is important is to acquire the experience of Window 7 in the first instant.

The Goddess Durga manifested as Skandmata on the 3rd day of Navaratri.
She has eight hands which denote eight directions. These hands have on them : Lotus, Shankh, Chakra, Shastra, Sword, Dhanusk, Mala and Gada. These are symbols. They convey the Goddess's powers. They also explain the mysteries of life. The Goddess is the energy which pervades the universe. It is well expressed in the श्लोक  " या देवी सर्व भुतेसू नमस्ताये नमस्ताये नमो नमह ". The lion is her ride. She is in all of us. She has to be awakened with the help of the मंत्र , so said Guru Maan in the morning discourse today.

Heard face to face debate of Romney and Obama from 6.30 to 8 AM. At the end of the debate, Obama appeared to have slight edge over Romney. Obama spoke well and convincingly. The third and the final  face to face debate between them will take place on Monday the 22nd instant and telecast live on Indian TV Channels on 23rd at 6.30  AM. As for as possible I would not like to miss it. I wish our politicians should also come face to face and debate on various issues like them. When we watch debate among them on our channels, it lacks  in content. In fact they get into mutual recrimination.

But later he left. I have already written to the Vice Chairman DDA with a request to allow compounding of the addition. Reply from the VC DDA is awaited. The girder is in the air and does not obstruct or cause inconvenience to anyone. I will follow it up so that the matter is settled once and for all.

Venita is 64 today. She received a number of telephone calls wishing her 'Happy Birthday' till about midnight since morningIt being Ekadasi, we kept fast. I visited temple and prayed for good health to her. Then I went to a long ailing man in the Society and promised to help him in treatment on the day. Venita met Neha and Sunita at Dillihat . They had especially come from Gurgaon to meet and wish her. Had lunch in the restraunt at ISCON temple, East of Kailash. They serve  food which can be taken on Ekadasi. It was delicious and cost Rs.450/- per person. The ambiance of the place was unique The chanting of Hare Krishna Hare Ram went on without interruption. Quite a few people were taking food. It is served every day from 12.30 to 3.30 pm. Breakfast and dinner are also served at fixed timings. During our stay in the restraunt,  a recently married Muslim couple came. They too took food. The woman was in Burqa. She removed it from the face in the restraunt. An  accompanying man took quite a few snaps of the couple from different angles. I foresaw an inclusive growth of a tolerant society  in the episode in future in the country.
On way back, we had a cup of coffee at Cafe Coffee Day at Janakpuri. We had planned a quiet candlelight dinner at Hilton, Janakpuri in the night. We abandoned the idea due to fast.

The cake was circled by 11 little colorful lamps. These were lit by Khyati. Thereafter she cut the beautiful orange colored circular cake. Curiously there was no chanting of 'Happy Birthday to you 'as is the common practice on such occasion.  After cutting the cake, she ran up to protect herself from being rubbed cake on her face by her friends. 2nd Oct

Went for a brisk walk for 45 minutes. Today is the birth anniversary Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Sashtri and a holiday. Spent the day reading newspapers and magazine.
Pumping of water from the deep tube well in the park in front of the Arunodaya appts is suspended due to defects in the electrical circuits. Sent mail to MCD Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner MCD,SW with information to Lt. Governor Delhi, for their repairs.. It will take sometime before these are repaired .I will remind them after a week if the same are not repaired. I have also told Khati who is in charge of security and misc duties in the Society to inform the local MCD & DDA units about the breakdown of water pump.
A statement, attributed to Mahatma Gandhi, is printed in the newspapers today on the occasion of his birth anniversary : "The best way to find oneself is to dedicate in the service of others."
News of the day : "J Srinivasan, professor at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bangalore, goes through his work days secretly hoping for a global major climate crisis. As a leading climate change scientist in India, he knows that the country and the world are inching towards disaster. A serious crisis now would shake up people and make them act, he thinks. "I remember the ozone hole crisis while .I was a student," says Srinivasan. "Scientists were talking about it for a long time, but they took action only when the hole appeared over the pole."

Srinivasan has reasons to worry, particularly for India. Some of his colleagues at the IISc have done the first multi-model study of climate change for India for the rest of the century. It makes grim reading, particularly after the year 2030. If the world does not cut down its carbon dioxide quickly, temperatures will rise - compared to pre-industrial times - over the Indian subcontinent by 1.7 to 2 degree centigrade by 2030, and 3.3 to 4.8 degree centigrade by 2080.

Since we have warmed by slightly less than a degree so far, the next 20 years would see an additional warming of nearly 1 degree centigrade. Says Govindaswamy Bala, professor at the Divecha Centre for Climate Change at the IISc: "This is the first multi-model study anyone has done over the Indian sub-continent, and it has shown agreement over historical data." 1rst Oct.

Completed morning program. Visited SBI. In chamber from 1.30 to 4.15 pm.
I heard a discourse in the program of Bramhakumaris a few days back. It said that the time machine is moving on. At present we are about to reach the end of the Iron age (Kaliyug). The Satyug (Golden age), Treta (Silver age) , Dwapar (Copper age) are over long time back. Each has a period of 1250 years. The next age, according to the kal chakra, will be Satyug (Golden Age). In the Satyug, man is aware of his true nature, which is love for all beings. In the Treta yug, the awareness of the material  world comes a bit. It led to the desire of  Adam/Eve to eat the forbidden apple. This awareness of the body/world is rampant  in the Kalyug. The man has forgotten his true nature completely. He is running after physical pleasures  thinking them to be the ultimate reality. The conflict in personal and social life is the consequence.

News of the day :"Many nations need to do more to slow extinctions of animals and plants under U.N. targets for 2020 that would also save the world economy billions of dollars a year, U.N. experts say.

Only a few countries -- including France and Guatemala -- have so far adopted new national plans to tackle threats such as pollution or climate change in line with a sweeping pact agreed in Japan in 2010.
"There is a lot more to do," David Cooper, head of the scientific, technical and technological unit at the Secretariat of the U.N. Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Montreal, told Reuters by phone.
Almost 200 nations will meet in Hyderabad, India, from October 8-19 to review progress towards goals to protect life on earth that U.N. reports say is suffering the biggest wave of extinctions since the dinosaurs vanished 65 million years ago" CNBC TV10, dt.,01.10.2012 on line
