22nd to 29th July

The draft suit in the matter of Brijesh Srivastava with all annexures is sent to Vikas on 22nd for filing as Atiar could not file it, but he drafted it. Brijesh has been inquiring about it,to which I have not been able to give a convincing reply. I hope it will now be filed by Vikas and due process of law start. Atiar is shy of appearing in the courts as he feels that his English pronunciation may not be understood. But he has to get rid of this complex and start appearing in courts. He is now practicing for over 5 years.
Visited Escorts hospital for tests on 23rd. Venita could not complete Ultrasound of abdomen & now she will have to come on 24th for the purpose. Again Visited Escorts hospital on 24th for Venita's test. The test reports, received by us, do not indicate anything significant.
On 25th we had a conference with Mr.K.T.S. Tulsi, Sr.Advocate, in the matter of Frigoglass case. Sh.RTPS Tulsi could not attend due to sickness. Venita went to Gurgaon by cab and attended Puja in the house of our son. She returned at about 8pm.
On 26th arrived Chandigarh and talked to Sh.RTPS Tulsi about the court and item numbers. The bench is again changed for hearing the case on 27th. Now the new bench will have to be 1st told about the entire case since beginning. This is perhaps 7th or 8th bench which is hearing the case, a mockery of justice. Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel, who headed the bench was quite impressive.I found him as the 1st judge in High Court who does not grant adjournment unless there are unavoidable circumstances and emergency. All the cases he heard in my presence were disposed of in one way or the other. There was no spoon feeding of the advocates as also no concessions what so ever. I wish all the judges follow him. If it is done much of pendency in the courts will go. In our case he did not follow what the earlier court had ordained as verbally told by us.Verbal description of it was not acceptable to him. It had not been so recorded in the order sheet. He therefore decided to place our case in the regular list for disposal. Though this will delay disposal as we will again line up for our case to come for hearing, but to me it is quite fair and just.
On 28th collected Venita Ultrasound report from Escort hospital and also underwent echo test. Visited SBI and was told that there is no change in the interest rates for the fixed deposits. The stress thallium test is done and its report will be available on 30th.
On 29th attended hearing of a case in the CAT. It was part-heard and is now fixed for further hearing on 3rd August. Sh.Bharadwaj, advocate, who presented the case was quite thorough and convincing. Took appointment with Dr.Seth of Escorts hospital for showing all my reports.

16th to 21st July

On 16th Sh.Ranjan came and requested for taking care of the assets case registered against him by the CBI. At present he is posted at Leh in Ladakh.I have requested Sh.Pradhan to assist me in the case.On 17th Pilku rang up and asked not to pursue the buying of flat in Common Wealth Games Village at present. Was quite harsh to Swain for not doing his duties sincerely. I was not aware that his wife was suffering from cancer of intestines. I felt sorry and later apologized to him. Pilku told to write 10 stories on my experiences in the jungles of Assam and Meghalaya and generally in the North-East where I spent over 25 years, the best years of my life. These stories will be a hit with the children and could be published. He further said that when he narrated the stories of a herd of elephants and jumping across the road of a leopard, which he had seen when he was traveling with me in Assam, Abhishree & Amolikaa were thrilled and put a number of questions to him. I will work on this idea. In fact I have many stories of encounters in my mind with wild life during my tenure of Assam & Meghalaya as a Police Officer. I will try to narrate as many of them as possible for the children. On 20th visited Dr.Anoop Misra, Director & Head of the department of Diabetics and Metabolic deceases, Fortis Hospitals for showing Venita whose sugar level is not coming under control. It remains more or less touching 300. Dr. Misra examined her thoroughly and wished to see her with some reports after about a week. Due to antibiotic medicines taken by me for infection in my tooth no.6, I was feeling sleepy through out the day. Had to go to a dentist in Vikaspuri due to unbearable pain in my infected tooth. The dentist,Dr.Bansal, detected some puss in my tooth no.6. It was the main cause of pain. I was almost on the verge of collapsing. He also prescribed antibiotics and painkillers . Earlier 2 other dentists had seen the tooth but did not detect the puss. The antibiotics prescribed by one of these two dentists were not endorsed by Dr. Bansal. The moral of the experience is that we should not hesitate to consult another medical practitioner if there is no relief from others. On 21st bought herbal sweeteners for Venita. Retired to sleep at 10.30pm.

15th July

Completed the morning program. Visited SBI for some work. Sent 'Family Tree' in PDF form to children. Sheomohan spoiled the tiles of the bathroom by drops of acid that fell on them at the time of cleaning of the fixtures. I was quite angry with him which I should not have been. Had ORG X-Ray of the mouth.
Retired to sleep at 10.30 pm.

14th July

Completed morning program. Visited SBI for work. Met Sh. Bhanu, an IAS officer of Assam-Meghalaya Cadre of 1985 batch. He is the Resident Commissioner. He belongs to Andhra Pradesh and is son-in-law of Sh.Ronganai Naidu, a central minister of the cabinet of Late Narsimaha Rao, PM of India & formerly 1955 batch IPS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre. He had taken premature retirement on the request of SH.Narsimaha Rao and joint politics. As I left Assam in 1985 I did not interact with him. I drop in Assam house once in 6 months to keep in touch with officers of my former cadre and also to know the names of top echelons of the administration. The present chief secretary and DGP were Assistant Commissioner and ASP when I was SSP Guwahati(1977-1980). The wife of my friend about whom I wrote in my blog on 13th July came to know that her husband, my friend, had met me on 12th. She inquired as to what her husband had told me about her. I said that I could not tell the same to her. She went on & said that he must have criticized and spoken ill of her. She said that what all that he told me was true. She din't want to live with him. But somehow she was continuing to live with him. I kept mum and didn't say anything. I advised her to live happily in the interest of the family.
Barun rang up for a chit-chat. When I asked him as to how he liked the mails forwarded by me. He said he could not read all. As he is getting no time to read the mails, there is no point in forwarding the same to him. We should delete his name from the mail list and send him some important mails only and not all.
Retired to sleep at 11.15 pm.

13th July

Completed morning program. In fact pranayam, asans, exercises & walk are more important than anything else. These things and particularly walk, games, swimming etc. are absolutely essential to keep body and mind in a fit condition. As far as possible we should not miss them on any day.
Pilku asked to visit Common Wealth Games Village to look up flats. We have already decided to visit as soon as we hear from the builders.
Visited Safdarjang hospital and consulted the dental surgeon who advised an ORG X-Ray of the mouth to know the condition of teeth for further procedures. Obtained the permission for X-Ray ORG at Star 'Imaging' Path lab, Tilaknagar. Will get it done as soon as the antibiotic course of four days is over.
On way collected coffee from Cafe, Vikaspuri. But the girls on duty did not take money. On inquiry came to know that as I had won the bet due to victory of Spain, they had not charged for the coffee. In fact on Sunday the 11th they said that Spain would win. I agreed with them. As both of us agreed there was no scope for bet. Then they said that they would go for victory to Netherlands so that we could have a bet. The bet was for Rs.10/- only, but they had said that if they lost they would rather give me a cup of coffee free of cost. In fact I had forgotten the bet. It is only when the driver told me that I didn't have to pay for the coffee I remembered the episode. The 2 girls working in the cafe Vikaspuri are studying in the Delhi University in 3rd year of their graduation course. They get Rs. 6000/- per month for a 12 hour schedule of work per day with one day off each week. I was reminded of my daughter-in-law Ruchi working in Mc. Donalds in UK to earn some money so that she could carry on along with my son who was then studying in the London school of Economics. It's good that the youngsters take to jobs so that they can carry on their studies and later try for better jobs. In fact when my son Pilku got a job in UK, my daughter-in-law left Mc. Donalds job and joined MSC course in Information Technology at London School of Economics & after completing it joined Nessele in the first instance & of course she joined Unilever UK later followed by some other companies. After the birth of the 2nd child she has not been able to join any work. When I think of all this I salute Zap 86 (about which I have written in my blog on 9-11 July).
An old friend of mine of school days met me. We were reminiscent of old days. He told me the story of his life as to how things we were going on between him and his wife. He said, quote,"There is a deep seated dislike for me in the mind of my wife since very inception of our married life.",unquote. I asked what the reason was. He replied, quote,"I don't know .As you know ours was an arranged marriage in which none of us had seen each other. I have taken care of her to the best of my ability. But she appears to have somehow tolerated to live with me. She made every possible effort to leave me but somehow didn't succeed. There was none in her family who could give her succor. She wants to leave me even now. I told her that she could live separately if she so desired. But she does not want to live separately to keep facade of living together so that her parents, brothers & sisters didn't feel unhappy. She wants me to leave her. How can I leave her? I am at my wit's end. I think I have lived long years with her and will perhaps continue to live some years that are left."unquote. After hearing my friend I felt quite sad and advised him to continue to take care and put up with her as he had done so far. Life is like that. It is difficult to understand it as also to keep on living it. There is no alternative but to carry on. My friend left after lunch at a restaurant in Cannaught Place. He had to catch his flight by Jet Airways at 4.30 pm for Mumbai. I saw him off at the airport and promised to look him up as soon as I could when I went to Mumbai. I also asked him to call me whenever he came to Delhi to see if we could meet again over a cup of coffee/lunch/dinner. He was quite close to me in the school days from our 5th to 8th classes in AS Higher Secondary School, Fatehpur. Now he is in a good job and drawing a salary of over Rs.50,000/- a month. All his children are well settled and he lives in a suburban area of Mumbai. We met after over 55 years.
Retired to sleep at 10.30pm.

12th July

Sheomohan arrived today. He is a great help to Venita. Visited CGHS and collected medicine. Talked to Babua for quite sometime. When I told him that Spain had won Fifa world cup, he asked me what about Delhi. I told him that India/Delhi did not qualify for Fifa world cup participation. He asked me why. I told him that I would explain him when we meet next. Retired to sleep at 10.30 pm.

9th to 11th July

On 9th I was to appear in a case in CAT. When the case came up for hearing, the advocate of the defendants informed through his junior that he was preoccupied in another case and that he had not prepared for the case in hand. He had taken the same ground for non appearance/non arguing of the case on 3 previous dates over a period of 3 months. This is the 3rd bench of the CAT where the case came up for hearing. The bench accepted the submission of the junior of the advocate of the defendants and adjourned the case to 29th July. I have been noticing this phenomenon of moving the courts for adjournments in all most all the courts, lower & higher. No wonder the disposal of cases is inordinately delayed. In the present case I noticed that the adjournments are being taken with a view to delay the outcome of the case. It is to the detriment of my client who has been denied promotion and he has a good case against the establishment.I hope the bench of the CAT will hear the case on 29th & dispose it off.
Made a surfing of the internet to locate yoga centers in east Delhi as desired by Rashmi. I have sent her a list of the yoga centers located in east Delhi to pursue and find out a suitable instructor for her husband and son who are noticed to be much stressed in business. I am also trying to find out one good yoga instructor for them.
One e-mail received from my friend Shyam Suri, showed the pictures of Hollywood celebrities as they were 50/60 years back and how they are now. It is a touching story of life where everything is changing towards ultimate destruction and again creation.
On 10th attended the AGM of the association of retired senior IPS officers along with Venita. It was a formal meeting to hear the reports of secretary and treasurer besides election of new office bearers. It was my first meeting with retired senior IPS officers. There was a high tea, after which we didn't have to take dinner. Got a message from Neha that she was going to Jaipur with Babua. It appears she did not take kindly the conduct of Bablu in not coming back home to take her to the hospital as she was sick. Instead he went to drop his Finis colleague at her house & in the process became late. On my request Neha stayed back. We talked to her as soon as we were free from the AGM. Venita visited her on 11th July. Of course Neha didn't discuss the episode and everything appears to have cooled down. She was especially critical of Bablu for allowing Babua to go away from him to play well zone without being aware of it. It has happened quite a few times. Once it happened in Dubai when Babua quietly entered the lift of the multi-storey hotel where they were staying. Later he was brought to the reception by an Arab gentleman from the basement of the hotel where he had reached. It was quite an agonizing moment for both of them. He was chided by Venita.
Appreciated the following lines of David Brooks in New York Times, as reproduced in the Indian Express, page 15, dated 10-07-10, "The internet helps you become well informed. But the literary world is still better at helping you become cultivated, mastering significant things of lasting import" . Read the article of Sh. Shombit Sen Gupta in the Indian Express dated 11th. He says that the present day society has 3 kinds of generations: 1. The Retro (above 45 years), 2. Compromise (between 30-45 years) & 3. Zap 86 (below 30 years). The compromise generation tries to balance the Retro and Zap 86. According to him unless we understand the mindset of Zap 86 we will not be able to sell our goods and they will keep on running to foreign brands. Zap 86 is the generation which has grown after the 1991 reforms and is progressive and future looking. It is difficult to convince them by the mindset of Retro and Compromise generation. We have to understand their concerns, their perspectives and plan our strategies for renovation to sell the Indian products as is being done by the foreign brands. I liked the approach and am in full agreement with him. He further says that 19th century was a century of growth of machines, 20th century, a century of electronics and the present century, a century of digital technology. We have to understand it to appreciate the mindset of Zap 86 generation. It is a good analysis and I propose to give thought to it to work out the pattern of my life suitably.

8th July

Completed morning program. Neha is sick and doing self medication. I suggested she should go to her physician. She was not too willing. I implored her to go. She agreed to go and on being checked by the physician, it was found that she had sinus problem. I told her in lighter vein that if she did not go to the physician I would resort to Gandhigiri of Munnabhai MBBS. I think this worked.I had Ekadasi fast today.
Also collected approval for Venita's eye test. She is planning to go to London on request of Pilku & Ruchi. As their residence is being renovated with additional floor area, Ruchi has to run around and someone has to stay with the kids and also go with them to hobby classes. Pilku is too busy with his work. He has to move about all over the world for his work. He cannot spare himself much for staying at home. To enable Venita to go we will have to consult her eye surgeon in the center for sight. If he concurs there should not be any difficulty in going for a month. Sheomohan is coming to take charge of the house as also guarding it when I am out.
Retired to sleep at 11pm.

7th July

Pursuant to indication of high blood pressure as noted on 6th, I went to a consultant physician, Dr. Tomar. He saw my blood pressure and then found it 133/80, which according to him is normal. He said that due to heat & humidity the pressure goes up. He further said that no medication was required as I don't have any discomfiture, headache and giddiness. The blood pressure and heart ailments are due to genetic factors. They can come any time. After 6th I had stopped taking tea, coffee. But now I have taken one cup of coffee and am relishing it much. Read a write up captioned "The Pursuit of Happiness, the best way to find it is not to chase it", by Sanjiv Kaura, published in TOI dated 07-07-10 in the editorial page. I liked the approach. When I was a student of BA in Allahabad University in 1956-58, I had written an essay captioned "A Point of View", which was published in the Diamond Jubilee hostel magazine and got a 1st prize in the essay competition. The Diamond Jubilee hostel is the hostel where I lived for 6 years of education in Allahabad University. In my essay I too projected the same view point which is the content of Sh. Sanjiv Kaura's write up. I said in my essay that one should keep himself engaged in productive activities and need not bother about the results. Engagement is more pertinent than the results thereof. I advocate this view for all who desire happiness in their life.

6th July

After Wax bath of my left knee in the Physiotherapy center, I requested the physiotherapist in the center to check my blood pressure. She said it is 175/95. I have no history of blood pressure and I have not taken any medicines for the purpose so far. I thought over the matter and found that I had taken quite a few cups of green tea as also regular tea and coffee. It could be the effect of caffeine. The physiotherapist agreed with me but advised to consult a physician. I decided to limit my intake of tea/coffee. Despite very high level of blood pressure as indicated above, I did not feel any headache or any other discomfort. I slept well also. I rang up Dr. AK Lal, who has his clinic near our Society and visits us whenever required by us. But his pharmacist was on leave.Let me see if it is under control tomorrow. If not I will have to consult a physician.

5th July

Ruchi, my daughter-in-law, requested me to organize riding, swimming, tennis etc. for kids coming to Delhi on 16th. Made a survey of the facilities through the internet. Found world class swimming pool near JNU in Khazan Singh Swimming Academy. At Kumar Mangalam World school which is located at a stone's throw from our house, teach tennis, table tennis and skating. Riding is organized in the Cavalry unit in Delhi Cantt. The children will have to become the members of the Army riding club. The membership fee per child is Rs. 1000/- and Rs. 600/- is the monthly charge. I think it's worth becoming member as whenever children come they can go and ride as a matter of course and we don't have to run around for the same.

3rd to 4th July

On 3rd perused the latest issue of India Today, which has Saina Nehwal on its cover page. After seeing the writeup on her one gets a firm view that hard work coupled with luck helps one to go up and achieve big things in life. In the walk & talk interview of Sh.SN Goenka, published in Indian Express dated 4th July,he clarifies that luck is nothing but the result of our good deeds in this life as also in previous lives. The interview gives an overview of Vipassana and its various facets.

1st & 2nd July

Completed morning program on both the days. I am now particular about my morning schedule and stick to it as far as possible. It includes Vipassana meditation, Pranayam, Asans, Exercises & walk. On 2nd visited Kumarmangalam World School at Vikaspuri to organize some hobby classes for Abhishree & Amolikaa for 2 weeks when they will be staying with us. There is arrangement for swimming classes at Khazan Singh Academy near JNU. Efforts are made to organize riding classes in an Army unit in Delhi cant. Sh. Madbhagwat katha by Swami Krishnanandji Maharaj is being telecast live in Sanskar tv. Heard it from 3.30 to 7 pm.

24th to 30th June

The Sai Bhajan Sandhya was organized by a devotee in the society on 25th. Venita attended it. Sai devotional songs have a mesmerizing effect and take you to a different world altogether. Music takes you sometimes to a level where you feel one with the reality which is Truth, Beauty and Well Being of all (Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram). The feeling calms you. It is the tits & bits of the world which make you pray and pine for divinity to help when you are in troubles and you cannot do anything but to seek for the divine blessings along with whatever temporal actions one can take if at all one is capable of taking. There are many in the society who cannot do much due to their poor means. The son of the devotee who organized the Sai Bhajan Sandhya is suddenly detected to be suffering from leukemia. The following lines of Shankkar Aiyar in India Today, dated July 5th 2010, page 16, caught my attention "More committees are being reincarnated to visit old issues, indecision has been outsourced to create smokescreen or douse potential issues". Heard the interview of Professor Ashish Nandi, who is a well known psycho-socio-analyst. It was illuminating. On 26th could not sleep after 1.20 am. Could not diagnose the cause. After a good 5-6 hours sleep during the day I felt normal. On 27th Munna and his family came for a stay with us. He accompanied me during morning walk.On 28th left at 10.30 am on way to Ganganagar after a visit to his sister's house in Noida. Neha and Babua came on 29th. After spending about 2 hours with 2 kids living in the flat opposite to our's Babua spent the remaining time with me, painting and playing one game or the other. After finishing one game he would say what next game we would play. On my suggesting a next game he would play with me & so on so forth. Once he asked me "Are you my Dada. Are you my papa's papa?". I said "Yes". I noticed a curious smile on his face , which I have not been able to decipher. He came at about 10.30 am and left at about 5.15 pm. I implored Neha to stay overnight sometimes so that we can spend a little more time with Babua. I went to Cafe and brought a chocolate muffin for him. On 30th, Venita's eye checkup took place at Center for Sight, after the Avastin injection on 22nd. Earlier Dr.Talwar had seen her eyes on 23rd also. There is good result. It will be clear only after 3 weeks when OCT(Angiography)is done. Read a funny news in TOI. It says that some people are constructing a temple with an unusual deity, namely, English language. It is to be inaugurated on 25th Oct.2010 in UP, which is also 210th birth anniversary of Thomas Babington Macaulay.
