Completed morning program. Collected medicines from CGHS. Talked to the interns in the chamber. Today is Karva Chauth. It is also called husband's day. In this occasion the wives keep fast and after seeing the moon put tilak on the foreheads of their husbands. They garland them and touch their feet. The husbands bless them with eternal marital bond and bliss. It is a fast in which the ladies don't even take water during the day and like the Muslims during Ramjan they take enough water, sweets etc. before the sunrise. Even some unmarried girls keep fast for the long life of their prospective unknown would be husbands. Even some husbands keep fast for the long life of their wives. I have never kept one so far. Among the Hindus there is a belief that the marriages are pre-ordained and each one has his her partner somewhere who will meet one day for marriage. In a skit telecast by BBC today I saw how Chinese goods, particularly textiles, have flooded Italian markets. I thought it was happening in India only. It is happening all over the world. They are cheap, though not sturdy and lasting.
Retired to sleep at 11pm.
