Alaynah was born today at Gurgaon, Haryana, 8 years back. According to Indian calendar, it was Navmi, Shuklapaksh, Shravan, Vikram Samvat 2067,11 am, Thursday, corresponding to  Gregorian calender's 19.08.2010 . We talked to her early morning over phone.We attended her birthday party and joined in cake cutting ceremony. We blessed her for long,healthy and bright life.

After the birthday party, drove to Vikaspuri along with Venita. Venita will do Puja on the last Monday of the month of Shrawan, next day in the Society temple. Pilku who is holidaying these days in Italy with his family (Ruchi had to go to Switzerland on official work during the trip. She missed the Gondola ride) has sent the following photo from Venice :

Attended a seminar on “Debating Contours of Muslim Marginalisation and Exclusion in India” at IIC. Main speakers were ex-Prof. Imtiaz Ahmad of JNU & Dr. Mehmud Hanif Abdullakhan Lakdawala of Ahmedabad. Participated in the lively discussions which followed their presentations. Later joined in dinner too.  Two minute silence was observed to pray for peace to the departed soul of late Atal bihari Bajpa ex-PM of India. Information about his death was received when the seminar was going on.

17th
Late Bajpai was cremated with full state honours. PM Modi and BJP President Amit Shah walked in humid heat behind the gun carriage which carried the body of late Bajpai covering a distance of about 4 kms on foot from BJP hqrts to Smriti Sthal at Rajghat for cremation. Thousands of people paid homage to him all along the route, at his house, BJP hqrters and Smriti Sthal. A number of VIPS including SAARC leaders also watched his grand daughter giving 'mukhagni' to him at cremation. It was serene and touching occasion.

18th (Saturday)
Poonam in/charge SW section of Safdarjung hospital is to leave for Kailash Mnsarovar next day. Met and conveyed our good wishes for safe journey.
Pilku is in Italy these days with his family on holiday. He has sent some photographs from Pisa. A couple of them are reproduced below :

Attended batch lunch at CSOI Kasturba Gandhi Marg. 14 0fficers of different services joined in. There was heavy downpour. We got drenched while boarding our cars.
Pilku will arrive Delhi around midnight on a short visit.
11th
Venita organized Lord Shiva's abhisheka today (Amavasya) .  It followed a get-together so that Pilku could meet relations, his brothers, their families and children. In all 20 attended. Following photos were taken by Subhash by his cell.
With designer cards, Alaynah invited her Dada Dadi and Bare Papa Pilku for her birthday party on 19th August. Pilku told her that he was to leave for London before that. She insisted that he should attend her party.

Attended a panel discussion in IIC along with Venita. Over 60 people attended. The subject was 'Developments in Pakistan : Implications for India'. A lively discussion followed. The panellists included Rana Banerjee, an IAS officer of Assam-Mghalaya cadre who retired as Special secretary of the Cabinet Secretariate, Ambassador Dogra and an erudite Lt General of the army who had worked as GOC-IN-C Kashmir.
Venita went to Vikaspuri to join in Puja on the second Monday of the month of Aswin  on 6th.

First Monday puja of  the month of Aswin was performed today. Venita asked me to look up the flowery decorations which she did with the help of other devotees in the temple. Good decorations.

28 and 29th July.

28th (Saturday)
Came to Vikaspuri after over a month. The house is maintained well by the old maid and Shiva Mohan who spent three/four days of the first week of the month here on way back to Fatehpur.
Could not watch Century's longest lunar eclipse : Blood moon which happened at about 11.45 pm to about 1.15 am of 27 and 28th July respectively. We were all asleep.
We could not discuss installation of lift in our block as one important resident could not attend due to sudden death of his elder brother. We will discuss it now next week.
29th (Sunday)
Venita went to participate in 'Vishnu Sahastranam' recitation in a nearby society. Joined in 'langar' there at the end of recitation and puja. Spent good time in repairs of old gadgets.
